Here is a section of suit rib fabric. Each tile of the surface is shaped so that it can flex in specific directions and still remain part of the whole suit magnetic support structure. Each edge interlocks with its neighbor and stacks like bricks held together with magnetic mortar. The sides of each tile are compound shaped to provide e relatively huge surface area for the magnetic field to work over. The I individual boundary forces are very large for something about 1/4″ on a side but really becomes prominent when viewed as a whole.
I am using a three-pronged mag-grabber to hold the defective fabric up to a fine probe. The inset view shows me what one of the positioning ‘eyes’ is seeing. They use green laser light for illumination, because the CCD cameras are optimized at that wavelength.
