“Silencers have been a very important part of my ‘career‘ and yet I don’t have very many of them. They often reduce accuracy or increase the overall size of a weapon; sometimes the reduction in noise isn’t worth the effort. Here are three weapons where the designers have integrated the silencer to the weapon to great effect.
The Sterling SMG was an early favorite of mine. It was light, comfortable to shoot (love that sideways magazine) and reliable. The 9mm workhorse of the British Armed Forces for decades is its quiet best in the L-34A1 with its very nice wood foregrip on the silencer.
Heckler & Koch has provided much of the worId’s police and armed forces weaponry and the MP5 is their 9mm Para gun of choice. The silenced version is no less effective in magazine- after-magazine dependability. Called the MP5SD3 (‘3’ being the collapsible stock variant), it is longer than the standard MP5, but it sounds like an airgun, so I’lI put up with it.
Although the MAC-10 is a very useful gun for laying down lead, it can be made slightly more useful with the addition of the Sionics noise suppressor and its thermal grip/blanket. (We have to thank Sionics for their faith in designer Gordon Ingram for they had bankrolled the manufacture of the MAC-10 & 11 for use with their line of suppressors.) In 9mm or .45, it is a bit of a scatter- gun, but I get good control of it by using short bursts.”
